If you’re looking to build your email list, quizzes are one of the most effective ways to do so. They’re fun for users to take, and they’ve been proven to have significantly higher open rates than traditional lead magnets. A lot of people hesitate to make a quiz lead magnet, though, because they can be a little intimidating–but that’s not the case! As a copywriter who’s created quiz lead magnets for clients, I can tell you they’re actually quite doable (and fun to create!) with the right tools. So in this post, I’m breaking down exactly how to create a quiz using Interact’s quiz maker.
There’s a reason quiz lead magnets have become so popular in recent years: they work really well! Here’s why:
They have opt-in rates of up to 40% – Quiz lead magnets convert significantly higher than traditional lead magnets like PDF guides or checklists. When you give people something interactive and personalized, they’re much more likely to opt in and join your email list.
They’re fun! We all love to learn about ourselves. Whether it’s discovering our personality type or getting a personalized recommendation, quizzes tap into our natural curiosity about who we are and what fits our unique needs.
You can gain valuable insights about your audience – A well-designed marketing quiz grows your list, but it also helps you understand who’s on it. You can begin to segment your audience based on their quiz results, so you can send more targeted, relevant content in your emails.
There are lots of different types of quizzes that you can create – My favorite (and a very popular type) is a personality-based quiz, like “What’s Your Brand Personality?” or “Discover the Perfect Content Strategy for Your Business Style.”
But you could also create knowledge test quizzes (ex, “Are You an Email Marketing Expert?”) or product recommendation quizzes (ex, “Find the Perfect Skincare Routine for You.”). All of these can be fun and strategic for your business, depending on your needs.
Before you even open up the Interact quiz maker, you need to plan out your quiz strategy and write your copy first. Here’s the process I always follow when I’m writing quizzes for clients, and where I recommend you start as well:
Choose something that will be appealing enough to your audience to get them to take the quiz. The key is to make it focused on them, yet also something that gives you insights about your audience to help you with your marketing efforts later. It should be related to your business and also intersect with your audience’s needs or desires.
For example, if you’re a business coach, you might create a quiz like “What’s Your Business Growth Personality?” If you’re a wedding planner, you could do something like “Discover Your Dream Wedding Style.”
I always recommend writing your quiz copy in a Google Doc before you start building anything in the Interact quiz maker. This makes the process so much smoother, and you won’t feel boxed in by the platform as you’re trying to get your ideas out.
Start with your result types:
Create the different archetypes for your results and give them characteristics so you can create quiz questions that direct quiz takers to them.
Aim for around 3-5 result types–any more than this will become too overwhelming for you to keep track of!
When someone finishes the quiz and gets their results, aim to give them more than just a short blurb about their result. They invested the few minutes that it took to complete the quiz, so give them something good! But don’t make your results pages so long that you lose them. Strike a balance between valuable and digestible.
It’s also strategic to give them something else along with their results. This could be:
The goal here is to keep them in your orbit longer, rather than just getting their results and leaving.
Once you have the copy for your result types written, now is the fun part – writing the questions!
Each question should have answers that correlate to your result types (this is why you start with the result first!).
You can have the exact number of answers per result type for every question—this makes it extremely easy to keep track and match them up—but you don’t have to. Sometimes it’s nice to keep the number of answers unequal so the quiz taker doesn’t pick up easily on the pattern and guess their result before they’ve finished.
Have fun with the questions! They don’t all have to be exactly related to your business or the quiz topic. You can have some creative ones snuck in there just for fun. This keeps things interesting and makes the experience more enjoyable for your audience.
Interact makes it easy to create different kinds of questions, too. You can make them text-based or even incorporate images for the quiz taker to select from for their answers.
Once your copy is written, it’s time to build your marketing quiz in the platform.
Interact is my preferred tool for quizzes. It’s incredibly user-friendly and very well-loved in the online marketing community. Even if you’re not particularly tech-savvy, I promise you’ll find it easy to navigate.
They provide lots of easy-to-follow tutorials for setting up your quiz, from creating it to adding your questions and result types, even to some of the more complicated tech pieces like connecting it to your Email Service Provider.
Speaking of that, you’ll definitely want to connect your quiz to your email service provider! (If you don’t currently have one, I love Flodesk personally.)
This will allow you to collect email addresses and grow your list from your quiz. From there, you’ll have a valuable list to nurture and sell to when you have new offers or products to launch. The ROI of email marketing is up to $42 for every $1 spent, so it’s definitely worth it!
You can set your quiz up to either email the quiz taker their results, show them immediately upon completing the quiz, or both. I prefer to do both, because the user gets that instant gratification seeing their results immediately, but it’s also in their inbox for them to go back to later.
You can choose to either design your results page directly within Interact, or if you’d like a bit more of a robust results page, you can create a dedicated page for each result type on your website and redirect the user there.
Interact has been my quiz creator of choice for several years now. It’s the program I always recommend to clients when they’re looking to create a quiz lead magnet.
Yes, it’s an added tool and another subscription, but your quiz has the power to grow your list so well that it’s well worth the investment!
My favorite part about Interact is how easy it is to use and how you can create some really interactive quizzes. The platform gives you the flexibility to customize your quiz to match your brand, while still keeping the setup process simple and straightforward.
It’s an amazing quiz maker tool!
If you’ve been wanting to create a quiz but don’t have the time or desire to do it yourself, I’d love to help you!
I offer a quiz lead magnet copywriting service that’s completely done-for-you. The base service includes the copy, including the opt-in copy that encourages your reader to take the quiz, the quiz questions and results pages themselves, as well as the email copy to deliver the quiz to your audience.
And if you’re not a tech person, you can add on the setup within Interact for a completely done-for-you experience!
The quiz copy investment is $950, and the tech add-on is $450.
