I find that many wedding vendors have a general understanding of why blogging is important to their business, but wonder how often you should blog. Blogging can be time-consuming on top of all of the other tasks in your business, so because of that a lot of wedding pros shy away from it altogether. But, when you establish a good routine and stick to a consistent monthly schedule, it is completely doable!
Wondering why you need a blog in the first place? To help you get found online, that is why! Blogging is the most effective way to increase your Google ranking and get more traffic to your website. Google crawls text on websites to determine what content to show searchers, so the more content (blogs) you have on your website, the more chances you have to appear in search results. And, it is not enough to just post images as a blog post – the blog must contain text in order for Google to understand what the post is about!
The other primary reason you should be blogging is that it gives you an opportunity to showcase your work to potential clients. When you are able to answer their questions and provide helpful content to them, you are connecting with them from the start and gaining their trust. THIS is what ultimately wins them over and prompts them to inquire!
In order to be effective with your blogging though, you need to understand how often you should blog. Blogging can be time-consuming on top of all of the other tasks in your business, so I often see wedding pros and other creatives shy away from it altogether. But, if you can commit to posting a couple of blogs per month consistently, you will begin to benefit from the SEO effects of blogging and start to see more traffic to your website.
If this still feels overwhelming to you, you can outsource your blogging! Many service providers specialize in digital marketing tasks such as blogging and can help take this daunting task off of your plate.
And another note about how many blogs you should post per month – it is absolutely key to keep your posts spread out. Google prefers websites that are updated frequently with valuable content over a site that publishes 10 blogs at once and then nothing for months on end. So if you do have to batch your content, just make sure to schedule your posts out! And again, a few blogs per month is sufficient to begin to see results. It’s more about quality over quantity.
Blog posts really do need to have a mix of text and images in order to rank well on Google searches. But how many words is sufficient? I recommend anywhere between 300 – 500 words for wedding pros. For a post that is highlighting a wedding or event, around 300 words is usually enough. And for educational posts that expand on a particular topic or two, around 500 words is plenty. If you go over or under a little bit, no worries! As long as you are getting into the habit of blogging and consistently updating your website with new written content each month, you’ll be golden.
A sneaky benefit to blogging is that you have the basis for so much content on all of the other platforms you are on! You can so easily turn a blog post into an email newsletter, anywhere from 4-8 social media posts or reels depending on how detailed the blog content is, and anywhere from 6-12 Pinterest pins as well! It is helpful to promote your blog posts on the various marketing platforms in addition to publishing them on your website so that you can take advantage of additional exposure and drive more traffic.
Maintaining your blog on your website is absolutely essential for wedding vendors and creatives. Not only does this help you get found online in Google searches, but it also helps you to build authority and trust with your audience and potential clients. And remember, unlike your social media content, you OWN your website and your blog content, and aren’t susceptible to the ever-changing Instagram algorithm.
But I get it – it takes a TON of time to write several blogs per month, every month. As a copywriter for wedding pros and creatives, I specialize in taking this time-consuming task of blogging off of your plate – so you get the SEO and traffic benefits of blogging, without the work.
