How to increase your website traffic is one of the most common questions that I find wedding professionals have. Getting found on Google is important to all businesses, but especially important in the wedding industry, where standing out amongst other vendors in your area really matters. Keep reading for the top 3 tips for increasing traffic to your wedding business website.

A lot of people think of SEO (search engine optimization) as this big daunting task that takes ages to learn. When in fact, it’s not too complicated! Put simply, SEO is just all about creating helpful content that searchers are looking for online.
So the way you find out what your people are searching for on Google is by doing keyword research! You can do this super easily by utilizing a keyword research tool. Some of my favorites are Keywords Everywhere and SEO Minion. These tools allow you to see which terms or phrases people are searching for on Google, and how many monthly searches on average each phrase gets. Based on your research with these tools, you can select which terms and phrases you want to use throughout your website. Select keywords that are commonly searched for, but also that are specific to your industry or specialty. Remember, the key is to write content that is relevant to your audience, not just to stuff your website with keywords!
Once you’ve identified your keywords, use them throughout your entire website. For example, one of your keywords might be “Maine wedding photographer.” Use this phrase on all pages of your site! This includes your homepage, about page, contact page, etc!
As a wedding professional, the very best thing you can do to increase your website traffic is to add a blog. This is for a few reasons:
As we reviewed above, Google scours the internet for websites that include the exact terms (keywords) people are searching for. So the more opportunities you create to use these keywords, the more likely you are to rank higher in a Google search! Utilizing keywords on your home page, about page, etc. is great, but if you can add a blog and publish new content with your keywords frequently, the better off you will be.
The Google algorithm also views websites with new content added frequently as more relevant (and therefore better to show searches) than websites with a few pages that sit untouched forever.
Aside from the reasons above, another reason that blogging is important for your wedding business is that it provides an opportunity for you to educate your potential couples, and to establish yourself as an expert in your industry! And it is also an opportunity to show off your beautiful work. A portfolio is helpful to have, but in a blog post, you can go into greater detail about the wedding day, in order to inspire future couples to book with you.
Did you know that the images you upload to your site also play a role in increasing your website traffic? It’s true! In addition to crawling text on websites, Google also crawls images for their titles and alt text, to determine if they are worthy of being shown in a search. This is why it is important to take the few extra minutes that it takes to rename your images using your keywords before uploading them and to add alt-text as well.
